Roger Sweeney has been working internationally
in the field of zoo management and wildlife
conservation for more than 25 years, living and
working in locations as diverse as the Philippines,
Canary Islands, Arabian Gulf, Eastern Caribbean,
Europe and North America. He has worked with
some of the world most endangered wildlife and
coordinates several Species Survival Programs
and conservation initiatives.
Roger has authored five books, numerous scientific papers and many
popular magazine articles about the captive management, breeding and
conservation of wildlife that has been circulated around the world. He is a
regular presenter at professional conferences and has served as a program
manager and a taxon advisory group member for both the European
Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) as well as for the Association of
Zoos and Aquariums in North America (AZA).
Roger now works as the Assistant Director of the Virginia Zoo. He currently
serves in a number of roles for AZA including as the Species Survival Program
coordinator for several species, on the steering committee of the Galliformes
taxon advisory Group, as an advisor for the Coraciiformes taxon advisory group;
and as the Communications Chair for the Avian Scientific Advisory Group.
